Amazon Just Changed How Sponsored Brands Headline Ads Work

If you manage Amazon ads, you've probably noticed your Sponsored Brands headline ads look different lately. That's not a glitch. Amazon rolled out a real change to how these ads work, and it's worth understanding before you start troubleshooting.

What changed

The old headline ad format let you upload a custom lifestyle image, write your own headline, and send shoppers to your Store. It was your creative, your story, your call.

The new format ditches that. Now the ad shows products pulled straight from your listings, up to ten of them, complete with real pricing and ratings, and clicking through sends shoppers to your Store or the product itself. Amazon still gives you a video option if you'd rather tell a story in motion instead of a static grid. Either way, the custom lifestyle image and headline are gone.

Why Amazon made the change

Amazon says the goal is to cut down on the manual work of building creative for every campaign and let its own systems match products to what a shopper is actually looking for. Instead of one image trying to represent your whole brand, the ad reacts to search intent and shopper behavior in real time. Fewer creative bottlenecks, more personalization, in theory.

How it works now

You pick three to ten ASINs (or let Amazon's system choose them for you), and the ad pulls live details straight from those listings.

No design files, no copywriting, no waiting on creative approval. If you go the video route instead, you're building a short video ad that promotes your products and links back to your Store, which still gives you some room to control tone and message.

The impact so far

Amazon is telling advertisers directly, through notices in the ad console, that the new format is outperforming the old one on click-through rate and conversion. That's not just outside speculation anymore; it's coming from Amazon's own numbers.

On top of that, there's a real deadline now: the old product collection ads are being discontinued starting February 2027, and anything still running on that format will get auto-migrated whether you act or not.

So the honest read is that this trades creative control for reach, and the reach side is winning so far. If your brand story was doing real work in that ad slot, video is still the place to lean in, since it's the one format left where you can shape the message instead of just showing the products. But if you've been holding off on migrating, there's no upside to waiting.
